Digestive system of Lobeo Rohita:
Digestive system of Lobeo rohita is consist two parts:
(1) Alimentary canal
(2) Digestive gland
- Alimentary canal: It is long and complete. It consists of the following part:
(i) Mouth: It is a sub-terminal transverse aperture. It is bounded by a pair of fleshy and immovable lips. (ii)Buccal cavity: It is dorsoventrally compressed space bounded by jaws. Teeth and tongue areabsent in the buccal cavity of Labeo.
(iii) Pharynx: It is also dorsoventrally compressed space which is distinguishable into respiratory part with internal gill slits and posterior narrow masticatory part with homodont and acrodont teeth.
(iv) Oesophagus: It is small and tubular part.
(v) Intestinal bulb: It is long and thick walled and is divided into two parts i.e. anterior bulbous,cardiac part and posterior narrow pyloric parts.
(vi) Intestine: It is long, narrow, thin-walled and tubular structure. It is highly coiled and is present in the abdominal cavity.
(vii) Rectum : It is thin-walled wider and tubular part. It opens out by anus.
(viii) Anus: It lies on mid-ventral side just in front of anal flings.
- Digestive glands :
(1) Liver: A large sized dark brown coloured and bi-lobed liver is present. Right liver lobe is larger in size. There lies an elongated and thin walled gall bladder present ventrally. Bile is brought to intestinal bulbs by a bile duct.
(ii) Pancreas: It is located along the intestinal coil. Fine ductules arise from it and joins to form a
pancreatic duct which opens in intestinal bulb.
