General Anatomy of Herdmania:

General anatomy of Herdmania consists of the following parts:

  1. Alimentary canal:

(i) It is complete which starts from mouth and opens at the end of rectum by anus. Mouth is present at the tip of branchial siphon.

(ii) A small buccal cavity of branchial siphon with branchial sphincters and branchial tentacles are

present at its lower end.

(iii) A large sized pharynx with numerous gill slits is present in lateral wall.

(iv) A ciliated and glandular endostyle is present on its dorsal wall.

(v) A small curved oesophagus, stomach surrounded by two lobes are seen.

(vi) A dark brown liver and a looped intestine are also observable.

  1. Heart: A cylindrical muscular heart is present in an elongated and tubular pericardium near the intestinal loop.
  1. Neural gland: A light brown coloured neural gland is embedded in the mantle in between the two siphon.
  2. Gonads: A pair of gonads are embedded in the mantle. The right gonad is present above the pericardium, whereas left gonad is present in the intestinal loop. There are two rows of gonadial lobes arranged on two sides of a central axis except the medium lobe present at the proximal end.
